Records are all in the family

with Joseph Galiwango - Founder/Host/DJ/Dad of Records With My Daughters.

The Fold Podcast heads into a new direction this month as we kick off our mini-series covering music communities with Joseph Galiwango (aka DJ Spin So Nice), Founder/DJ/Dad of Records With My Daughters, who shows us how #ThePlatform can change the way we share art and culture within families to inspire greater connection.

Joseph is a music writer, high school teacher, DJ and avid record collector. Oh wait, I left out an important detail: he’s a full time dad and an amazing one at that.

I stumbled upon his Instagram account, Records With My Daughters, from my own father, who shared a heartfelt video of Joseph playing a record with his daughters in the room, as they groove to the beat and sing to a tune, simultaneously sharing anecdotes on the the music - its history, importance in its genre, sound and era, and the impact it has had on him.

Joseph’s heartfelt and genuine pieces are a glimpse at how we can cultivate community in the home, and inspires how we can get back to doing this with our families.

I’m not a parent, but am grateful and blessed to have parents that have been unwavering in their support of my multifaceted journey in pursuing music as a vocation, in various forms.

I’m inspired by Joseph’s extensive career history and journey, but even more so, his intentional platform and means to inspire families to get back to the roots of sharing art and culture within the unit and beyond.

What you’ll hear in Part 1:

  • Ola and Joseph discuss the origin of Records With My Daughters

  • Joseph’s childhood and first experiences with music

  • The importance of connecting your brand with who you are and how you live

  • Bringing art/music/culture into the home as a tool to communicate, connect and learn

  • Balancing your passions with parenting

What you’ll hear in Part 2:
